The Stiperstones National Nature Reserve is right on the doorstep, offering dramatic landscapes, open hills and spectacular views across the Shropshire countryside. For walkers and nature lovers, it’s a wonderful place to explore at any time of year.
A little further afield, the picturesque market town of Church Stretton sits beneath the magnificent Long Mynd. Known as the “Little Switzerland of England”, Church Stretton is a lovely place to spend a morning browsing independent shops, enjoying a leisurely lunch or simply soaking up the atmosphere. From here, the National Trust’s Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd provide miles of beautiful walking routes, heathland and panoramic views across the Shropshire Hills.
For those who enjoy history and grand country estates, there are several National Trust treasures within easy reach. Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury, makes a wonderful day out, with its impressive 18th-century mansion, extensive parkland, walled garden, woodland walks and deer park. There is also plenty for families to enjoy, including a large natural play area.
Or discover the historic market town of Shrewsbury, a charming destination with something for everyone. Wander through its picturesque medieval streets, admire the timber-framed buildings and browse the many independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.
Take a leisurely stroll around The Quarry and along the River Severn, explore Shrewsbury Castle, or discover the town’s fascinating history at the museum and historic sites.
